I want to say thank you to Wayan and his wife, they are amazing people, we spent 2 weeks in Wayan's house, and it was an incredible time.
My husband, teenage daughter and I stayed at Chandra House for a week and it was absolutely amazing! Wayan and his wife provided everything we needed for a relaxing and rejuvenating vacation. The accommodations exceeded expectations - from the comfortable beds and clean rooms to the delicious and fresh breakfast and peaceful environment. Our daughter appreciated the opportunity to visit the early morning market with Wayan's wife and learned how to prepare an authentic Balinese meal that included black rice pudding with coconut milk, chicken satay, fresh fruit, coffee and tea. We enjoyed the family-centered atmosphere and felt right at home. We visited so many culturally significant areas and were impressed with Wayan's knowledge and insight - he is an excellent tour guide and driver and his easy-going nature and engaging presentation made our visit educational and memorable. We visited the Tegallalang rice terraces and our daughter absolutely loved the swing. We toured the 'Cat Poo Chino' Satria coffee plantation that included a coffee and tea tasting. We saw Mt. Batur, and had a delicious buffet overlooking the valley. The visit to the Holy Spring Water Temple provided insight on rituals and customs and the cultural artifacts were intricate and beautiful. The visit to Keramas Beach with the powdery soft black sand was invigorating and the traditional lunch near the water was fresh and delicious. We look forward to returning and will be sharing our experience with others. We highly recommend Chandra House as a place to stay and appreciate the warmth and kindness of the Wayan family.
I know Wayan for a few years already and every time I come to Bali he always finds something new to discover for me. He knows I like 'the real' Bali, the quiet places, so he takes me to Gunung Kawi (11th century , magical place) before the crowds arrive and we have a bali kopi and a pisang goreng on the road afterwards, one of the many highlights of my stay. And now I can even stay in his and his wife's brand new homestay. Great discovery, because since I like yoga so much I made my stay into a perfect and very cheap yoga holiday. No need for expensive yoga retreats! Almost every day Wayan's wife took me on the bike to the nearby very good Saraswati Yoga (Jalan Suweta, above Rio Helmi's foto gallery and coffee) It's only € 3,50 per class! Back home she surprised me with all kinds of vegetarian home cooked meals, and healthy fruit salads and ginger tea. So what more do you need as a yogini? And that's exactly their speciality: they do everything to make their guests happy and really put their heart into it. The real definition of Balinese hospitality!
Wayan and his wife were very nice to me during my stay and made sure that my trip there was amazing. I stayed in many different hotels/bungalos during the two months that I was in Bali and I would have to say that his was the best over all, especially the wifi, air conditioner, food, and hospitality.
Ever since our first - and only till now - meeting in 2012, Wayan and me have become friends. During that holiday, Wayan drove us to some great places and was so full of information that he wanted to share with us. You can read about Wayan more in our travel blog. Be sure, when in Ubud, to contact Wayan. If not for a stay in the Chandra House, let him help you to discover the real Bali.
I first met the owner, Wayan Pastika, several years ago and have come to know him as a friendly and excellent tour guide who can show you all the well known and not so well known places on Bali and safely drive you to and from wherever you want to go.
Recently he has opened a brand new Homestay on his family compound in a quiet part of Ubud where I spent on and off over a week during October-November this year. Excellent accomodation, tasty food, very friendly people who take good care of you. In short, highly recommended when staying in Ubud.
